Meeting will discuss important legislation that could help thousands of local residents become parents
(Melville, NY-December 6, 2012)— RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association and Long Island
IVF are hosting a Town Hall meeting on December, 18th 2012, to discuss the Family Act, an important
piece of legislation introduced into Congress last year that would provide a tax credit for out-of-pocket
expenses associated with infertility treatments. While New York is one of only 15 states in the country
with an insurance mandate that can cover infertility treatments, the reality is very few people are able
to take advantage of the insurance mandate. The Family Act could help more people gain access
to important medical treatments that could help them become parents. “We understand that patients
are anxious about the success of fertility treatments. Besides their compelling desire to have a baby,
they’re coping with worries about the costs- in time, money, and discomfort- of IVF. The Family Act
focuses on helping these patients offset the costs of infertility treatments. This bill will make this
vital patient care more accessible for thousands of Americans,” said Dr. David Kreiner-Reproductive
Endocrinologist at Long Island IVF. “This legislation recognizes that infertility is a medical disorder
that merits support for affected individuals,” adds Dr. Steven Brenner-Reproductive Endocrinologist at
Long Island IVF.
People living with infertility and their family and friends are encouraged to attend this Town Hall
meeting where experts will discuss the bill, its impact on people with infertility and how they can work
with their Members of Congress to gain support. Representatives Tim Bishop, Peter King, Steve
Israel, Gary Ackerman, and Robert Turner have also been invited to attend the event.
Event details are as follows:
“We are excited to work with Long Island IVF on this important Town Hall meeting. The Family Act will
make important medical treatments more accessible for many area residents and thousands more
nationwide,” said Barbara Collura, President/CEO for RESOLVE: The National Infertility Association.
“RESOLVE’s work with Long Island IVF is vital to gain support for this bill. People with infertility need
to understand that their voice matters and can make a difference. Our goal for this Town Hall meeting
is to motivate our community to take action and ask their Members of Congress to support the Family
